Start Your Own Business

This is an excellent choice to give you tips on how to go from your own idea to developing into a full time business with information on how to create your business plans and ideas on how to raise the funds to get started.

Pet sitting business opportunity

How to Start and Run a Petsitting Business: A Step-by Step Guide to Setting Up a Successful Enterprise in This Rapidly Expanding Market

Perhaps you would like to use your love of animals as a way of making your own business.

A really caring Pet service is always in need.

Even here in Spain there are times when people would like to go on holiday, yet do not always take their pets with them.  Running a small pets holiday service could really help your friends and neighbours.

This is an excellent opportunity especially in these days of difficulties.  Not everyone can afford to pay huge pet kennels fees yet if their lovely pet was offered an opportunity to go on holiday as well and share some time perhaps in the country areas then it is excellent.

I look after a beautiful male jack russell who comes and stays with me and my female jack russell for his holidays while his mom and dad go off on their travels.  We have a great time, as we live close to the beach and mountains we are able to go for long walks.  The two dogs really enjoy the company of each other.  I enjoy having them together as well as my  dog sometimes shows signs of being a bit lonely - so it makes a nice change for her to have visitor.  She also has a friend close by whom she goes for walks with most mornings.

You could consider the option as it would help loads of people in difficult situations, whether you choose to offer dog walking, grooming or just dog sitting as an option.  We all need help sometimes so having someone who loves and will care for their pet is useful.  You could also check to see if there is any help you could offer to your local vet as a temporary foster home while an animal is recovering or in need of some tlc while it is getting ready to go home.  I know my local vet has brought home animals which have needed extra tlc overnight, so it is worth considering.

Dog Day Care

Click Here to Discover How to Become a Dog Daycare Owner

Do you love dogs, do you think you have the space, the time and the energy to help others who may need your services.

I know that a few years ago a neighbour of mine asked me to take care of a little dog while the owner was in hospital, it was for about 2 weeks, it was a very enjoyable time I had with it.

Recently since I have been in Spain I have also been asked to take care of someone else's dog and have plans to go stay at their home to watch and play and take it for walks with my own in January.  I find it a very rewarding role.

So if you are considering a new change in your life and you love dogs then why not give this some thought.

I am only sharing the roles that I think may interest people and that people can realistically hopefully want to do.

Have a good day.

I am sure that the information could equally apply to cats and all other animals.  It means using your own creative imagination as to how this could be applied to your lifestyle.

Freelance Romance Writer

10 Steps to a Fab Job as a Freelance Romance Writer
If you have always believed your fantasies worthy of being read by millions, now is the time to start using your runaway imagination to your benefit. With thousands of romance novels being published each year, it is easier to get published today than it has ever been in the past.

A career in romance writing allows you to work from home, at your own pace, and during the hours you prefer. Romance writing generally pays better than other genres of fiction, so you can make more money, or work fewer hours, whichever you prefer.

Finally, this line of work lets you truly touch the hearts of your readers, and give them the confidence to seek love and happiness in their own lives. No special education or experience is necessary to break into this career.

Successful romance writers merely require independence, creativity, and a determination to succeed. If this sounds like you, follow these ten steps based on the FabJob Guide to Become a Romance Writer to make your mark in this field. Who knows, you may be the next rising star!

1. Do some reading
If you already love to read romance novels, you are likely an ideal candidate for writing them. If you are unfamiliar with this type of novel, you will want to start off by exploring the genre. If you haven't read a romance lately, you might be surprised at the new trends within the industry. Try reading a variety of genres to get an idea of what you would enjoy writing, and to familiarize yourself with the conventions of each.

2. Develop your skills
Many of the skills you need to write will be developed as you practice, so keep those pens moving. Keep in mind that becoming a writer is an ongoing process. If you need some feedback, a local or online writers critique group can also help you further hone your writing skills. If you find yourself stuck for ideas, there are creativity exercises you can learn, and if your grammar needs some help, brush up with a book or quick course.

3. Get some experience So you want to list publishing credits to help your chances of selling, but you can't list those without selling, and it's hard to sell without the credits. Sound like a Catch-22? It is. Fortunately, you can get your feet wet publishing articles and short stories in magazines and ezines. Make sure you are familiar with the writers' guidelines and the publication itself before you submit. You may even consider accepting a couple of non-paying assignments in order to build your credentials.

4. Your proposal package It is important to create a professional image when you submit your work to an agent or editor, since editors are often swamped with submissions and will only read those that follow their guidelines. Most publishers want to receive a 'proposal,' which consists of the first three chapters, a synopsis of the plot and a cover letter. Send them whatever their guidelines indicate, and don't forget to include a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope) for a reply or return of your manuscript.

5. Target a publisher If you have read widely in the romance genre, you will have an idea of which publishers will be most interested in your style of writing. In addition to the major publishers (Harlequin, Kensington, etc.) be aware that there are thousands of smaller and electronic presses that initially may be more receptive. You will want to send them your proposal package, addressed to the current editor. Directories and the FabJob Guide to Become a Romance Writer are useful for finding contact information of publishers to submit to.

6. Self-publishing What if your book is so cutting edge that even the small presses don't feel comfortable taking it on? If you have shopped your book around and not received a positive response, self-publishing may be the route for you. Digital printing now allows for the cost-effective printing of as few as one copy of your book at a time, so you can set up your novel for around $100 and have it available to the public within a few weeks.

7. Get an agent If you've got your sights set on the large publishing houses, or are terrified of negotiating, you may consider getting an agent to help you find a home for your book. Once you have found an agent you'd like to work with, ensure that he or she has a good reputation in the industry. Bear in mind that an agent will take about 10-15% of everything you earn on your book.

8. Dealing with editors It's important to have a good relationship with someone you hope to be dealing with on an ongoing basis, so once you have interest from an editor, establish and maintain a professional relationship with him or her. Allow three to six months for them to consider novel proposals, and don't pester them with phone calls. Once they have expressed interest, be business-like, and make changes to your work as requested. A little respect goes a long way in this business.

9. Networking Conferences, local writing workshops and conventions are wonderful places to meet fellow authors, editors, agents and publicists. Many are even set up to allow writers to meet on a one-to-one basis with agents and editors. Not only are these situations great for networking, but just joining a national or local writers organization can bring you knowledge from the workshops and conferences they offer.

10. Self-promotion Building a readership and increasing book sales are two of the most important things authors can do to promote their careers. If hiring a publicist isn't in your budget (and you may be surprised to find it is) there are a number of things you can do to promote yourself, such as getting media attention, creating a website, and doing book signings.
Be creative, and be persistent…it can only benefit you in the long run.

Event Planner

Become an Event Planner

How to Break Into a Fab Job as an Event Planner A village feast to welcome home hunters in the wilds of Borneo and a glittering fund-raiser soiree at a swanky New York hotel may not sound like they have much in common, but they do have at least one similarity. Someone, somewhere, got the ball rolling and using a little resourcefulness, creativity and sheer determination successfully pulled off a spectacular event. (Well, someone had to figure out how much food and drink was required at the feast and where the chief would sit!) That person is an event planner. If event planning sounds like it could be your dream career, here are 7 steps to become an event planner, based on the FabJob Guide to Become an Event Planner.

1. Assess Your Skills Before you quit your day job to become an event planner, take the time to honestly assess your current skills to ensure you have what it takes to succeed as an event planner. Event planners must be creative and well organized, but they must also have excellent interpersonal skills. Events are about people, so successful event planners must be able to effectively listen to what clients want, develop relationships and negotiate with vendors (companies that supply products and services for events).
TIP: If you’re creative and have great people skills, but could use some help getting organized, event planning software is available to help you keep track of event details.
2. Learn How to Plan Events
Almost all events have common components such as some type of meal or refreshment, a form of entertainment or speaker, invitations or registrations, etc. The event planner is the person who pulls all of the components together. There are excellent resources available to help you learn how to plan events and assist with each stage of event planning including how to: choose a date, decide who to invite, budget, create timeline schedules, work with vendors, and market events. If you want a formal education, many colleges offer degrees or certificates in event planning. If you would rather break into event planning without a formal education, you can quickly learn how to plan events with books such as the FabJob Guide to Become an Event Planner.

3. Get Hands-On Experience The easiest way to learn about the steps involved is through personal experience (i.e. planning events for family and friends). Non-profit groups are always looking for help with their fundraisers and galas, and you’ll get the double benefit of helping a worthy cause while you hone your skills. This is also an excellent way to make contacts in the community to help you land a paying job when you are ready. You could also volunteer to organize events at your own workplace, if you have one. For example, if your company has a public relations department that is notoriously short-staffed, offer to help them out. The beauty of this plan is that you will be learning a new career while still being paid at your old job!

4. Create a Portfolio A portfolio is a collection of samples of your work, plus any other documents that can show people why they should hire you. A portfolio helps you stand out from other applicants, and prove that you have the skills to do the job. Your portfolio might include pictures, recommendation letters and anything else that shows prospective clients and/or employers what you have done or can do. Material for your portfolio can come from any event you have organized (such as a family reunion, birthday bash, etc.) or from ideas and themes you have for future events. Show your best work and don’t worry about giving away your great ideas. People will believe you have many more brilliant ideas that you haven’t yet divulged.

 5. Get Hired as an Event Planner Getting hired as an event planner (even if you plan on opening your own event planning business) will give you invaluable contacts and referrals for the future. Meeting and convention planners are projected to have faster than average job growth in the coming years. This is good news for the industry and for you. Companies that hire event planners include hotels or resorts, non-profit organizations, convention centers, country clubs, and even fun destinations like theme parks! Some people work their way into a position as their company’s event planner just by volunteering to organize internal events such as company picnics and meetings.

6. Start Your Own Event Planning Business If the idea of being your own boss and earning up to $100,000 or more per year as an event planner sound appealing, it may be time to take the plunge and set up an event planning business. Many event planners have home-based businesses, which makes this type of business inexpensive to start. With the wealth of information available on starting a business you should be able to get your own event planning business off the ground quite easily. When starting your own business, you should consider what types of events you want to plan. If you have a flair for the spectacular you may want to tackle proms, charity events and galas. If you prefer planning corporate events, you may choose to plan meetings, conventions, and the like.
TIP: Unsure of what type of event you’d prefer to plan? Consider interning or working for a number of companies whose specialties are quite different.
7. Develop Relationships with Vendors
You’ve probably heard the adage “it’s not what you know but who you know”. The most important relationships you will build as an event planner are with the vendors for your events. These are companies that supply products and services for events, such as caterers, florists, equipment rental companies, hotels, photographers, etc. Learn about each one’s business by conducting informational interviews and ask about discounts they can offer you. Be polite and courteous with the owners and their staff and always follow up afterwards with some sort of acknowledgement or thank you. You can also arrange to have vendors refer clients to your event planning business.

Further Your Career You can continue to learn and grow after you have become an event planner. One of the best ways to succeed as an event planner is to look upon every social occasion or event you attend as an opportunity to learn. Make a mental note of what worked well and what bombed. Attend tradeshows, read everything you can related to event planning, and watch for what’s hot. Seek out the advice of trendsetters and don’t be afraid to try something a little different. You may start a trend yourself!

Wedding Planner

Have you ever considered setting your own business as a Weding Planner.
Here is a book that could help you get started.

10 Steps to a Fab Job as a Wedding Planner If you are like most people, you have probably attended at least a few weddings. As the excitement of the wedding day approaches, many brides-to-be, along with their family and friends start thinking, "I wonder if I could be a professional wedding planner?" If you have been wondering the same thing, the answer is almost certainly “yes.” That’s because today there are more opportunities for wedding planners than ever before. In our busy society many couples turn to a professional wedding planner to ensure their wedding is as stress free as possible. As a wedding planner you can have a rewarding career that lets you use your creativity to organize the happiest day of people's lives. As long as you have the desire, you can become a wedding planner. No special education or experience is necessary to break into this career and succeed. If wedding planning sounds like the career of your dreams, here are 10 steps to getting started, based on the FabJob Guide to Become a Wedding Planner.

1. Learn about weddings
There are numerous details involved in planning a wedding -- from selecting the date to choosing the reception menu. To teach yourself wedding planning, help out with as many weddings as possible, visit bridal shows, read wedding magazines and books, and conduct informational interviews. Talk with clergy of various faiths, recently married brides and others connected to the wedding business such as florists and caterers.

2. Develop your skills
Successful wedding planners have a number of traits in common. They are usually creative people with excellent interpersonal skills who love to plan events. While most of these traits come naturally to many wedding planners, an important skill that some need to develop is organizational ability. To help you stay organized, you can create timeline schedules and checklists, and use organizational tools such as a day planner or binder to keep track of all the wedding details and paperwork.

3. Create a portfolio
A portfolio is a collection of photographs that show people your skill at planning weddings. Offer your services to friends and family who are getting married in exchange for pictures for your portfolio. To show your creativity, you can also include photographs of table settings or room decorations you have created in your home, or pictures from your own wedding if you planned it yourself.

4. Find a job in the wedding industry
Even if you plan to start your own business, consider getting a job in the industry first. These positions can be used as a stepping-stone to gain valuable experience and contacts. Wedding coordinators are hired by hotels, country clubs, and churches across the country. Some exciting options include working as a wedding coordinator at an attraction such as Disneyland or at a resort in a location such as Banff, Hawaii, Las Vegas, or the Caribbean. Many job opportunities for bridal consultants are available with companies that supply products and services for weddings including bridal shops, department stores with gift registries, florists, and caterers.

5. Set up your own business
Setting up a wedding planning business is similar to starting any home business. You’ll need to handle matters such as deciding whether to incorporate, setting up your office, and developing systems for getting paid. There are many excellent resources available to help you start your business including the U.S. Small Business Administration in the United States and the Government of Canada’s Canada Business.

6. Decide what services you want to offer Wedding planners offer a variety of services and packages based on their specific skills and interests. You might offer complete wedding planning services, wedding day co-ordination only, or consult with brides and grooms who want to plan their own weddings. Some wedding planners specialize in arranging "destination weddings" at resorts or on cruise ships.

7. Develop relationships with vendors
Vendors are suppliers of any product or service related to weddings, such as limousine companies, musicians, photographers, party supply companies, invitation printers, etc. Vendors can be a valued partner in planning a successful wedding.

8. Get clients
Supply business cards and brochures to the vendors you work with, and ask them to recommend your services to their customers who are getting married. Other ways to market your services include advertising, networking, and participating in bridal shows.

9. Consult with clients
Once you start getting calls from brides and grooms, arrange a client consultation meeting. Ask questions to find out what type of wedding they want, their budget, number of guests, etc. At this meeting you will discuss your fees, which might be an hourly rate such as $50 per hour or a flat fee. Explain how you can help the couple have the worry-free wedding of their dreams.

10. Be recognized as a professional
Successful wedding planners are always interested in learning new ideas to use with their clients. Consider joining a professional association for wedding planners to keep up with new developments in the industry. Clients will be impressed, especially if the organization certifies you as a professional wedding planner.

When I first started to research possible "Work At Home" ideas, and wanting to run my own business from home, it was a strange world of internet marketing which I did not have a clue about.

However over time I hope that I have developed a little knowledge that will help you too.

For the most part you need to know your own niche market - I have discovered at  a great deal of cost and energy that it is best to find just one area that you are familiar with and work on that.

It has taken me a long time to discover what my real pet is. Mine is property.  However there are loads of books on different subjects with which you could discover your own particular niche.

For me, because I have started so late in life I am learning from scratch, however hopefully your business will be successful.
